Thailand to Supply Pakistan Army with 100 First Win 4×4 Armored Vehicles

(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) – Thailand has signed an agreement with Pakistan to supply the Pakistan Army with 100 First Win 4×4 armored vehicles.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding signed last September in Islamabad, Thailand’s state-owned Thai Defence Industry Company (TDI) will supply the vehicles to Pakistan’s Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT).

TDI is a joint venture between the Defence Technology Institute (DTI) and Chaiseri.

In a statement, the Thai Armed Forces headquarters indicated that the Memorandum of Understanding also includes a technology transfer clause, enabling Thailand to transfer production technology to Pakistan’s HIT.

This technology transfer provision may allow HIT to eventually produce the First Win 4×4 vehicles within Pakistan.

Chaiseri will initially produce the first batch of First Win 4×4 vehicles at its facility in Thailand before HIT takes on the bulk of production in Pakistan.

“The agreement to supply First Win 4×4 armored vehicles underscores the capability of Thailand’s armored vehicle technology to enhance the Pakistan Army’s development,” stated the Thai Armed Forces.

The exact variant of the First Win 4×4 vehicles being provided to Pakistan is yet to be specified, though the First Win 4×4 is a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle designed to withstand battlefield threats, including landmines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The First Win 4×4, developed by Chaiseri Metal & Rubber Company, has been in production since 2009.

In 2015, Malaysia became one of Chaiseri’s customers, investing RM140 million for 20 First Win 4×4 vehicles, which the Malaysian Army has named “Lipan Bara.”

Malaysia continues to operate the Lipan Bara, with parts produced through a collaboration with Deftech.

Key features of the vehicle include a two-ton load capacity, 300-horsepower engine, and armaments such as the M134D-H Gatling Gun (7.62mm), a laser warning system, and 76mm grenade launchers.

The Lipan Bara variant also meets the NATO STANAG 4569 protection standards, though additional protective features remain classified.

Weighing in at 11.5 tons, the First Win 4×4 can carry over two tons of various payloads and can be equipped with different weapon systems, from 7.62mm machine guns to 12.7mm heavy machine guns. — DSA
