Su-57 “Felon” Unleashes Fifth Gen Air-to-Air Missile, The RVV-MD2
In recent months, Russia has introduced more Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems to its fifth-generation fighter aircraft to enable the Su-57 to truly emerge as a next-generation fighter.
(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) — Despite facing strict economic sanctions from the West, it has not deterred Russia from continuing to enhance the capabilities of its fifth-generation fighter aircraft, the Su-57 “Felon.”
In recent months, Russia has introduced more Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems to this fifth-generation fighter to enable the Su-57 to emerge truly as a next-generation fighter.
Recently, the aircraft manufacturer United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) stated that it is now ready to equip the Su-57 with fifth-generation short-range air-to-air guided missiles.
The revelation about the fifth-generation short-range air-to-air guided missile known as “RVV-MD2” was made by the Moscow-based company GosMKB Vympel, renowned for producing various types of guided missile systems.
The company, known for producing various types of guided missile systems, stated that the fifth-generation short-range air-to-air guided missile “RVV-MD2” is ahead by five to 10 years compared to the guided missiles used by its Western counterparts.
The RVV-MD2 missile is currently in the production stage.
The RVV-MD2 air-to-air guided missile is the latest variant of the RVV-MD guided missile and is designed to destroy airborne targets such as fighter aircraft, helicopters, bombers, and transport aircraft.
However, one of the key features of this latest air-to-air guided missile is its ability to engage airborne targets from any angle, including those behind it.
This means that even if the Su-57 launches the RVV-MD2 guided missile while being pursued by enemy aircraft, the fifth-generation guided missile has the capability to maneuver, “chase,” and target “enemy” aircraft behind it.
The capabilities of the fifth-generation air-to-air guided missile RVV-MD2 will further enhance the overall capabilities of Russia’s fifth-generation fighter aircraft, the Su-57.
Additionally, the guided missile can operate during day and night, in any weather conditions, and in challenging electronic countermeasure (ECM) environments from the enemy.
Russian weapon experts also explained that the RVV-MD2 is Russia’s first air-to-air guided missile equipped with an inertial control system that allows it to control and stabilize the guided missile during autonomous flight.
The Inertial Control System operates on the principle that the guided missile autonomously determines its coordinates in the air without relying on external systems or signals.
Furthermore, the RVV-MD2 guided missile has tools that enable it to refine its target coordinates, thereby enhancing its ability to target more precisely. Russian weapon experts also stated that the fifth-generation short-range air-to-air guided missile RVV-MD2 can be placed in the internal bays of the Su-57 aircraft, thus preserving the stealth characteristics of Russia’s fifth-generation fighter aircraft. — DSA
