Saudi Arabia Acquires Cobra II 4×4 Armored Vehicles for Security in the Holy City of Mecca
During the military parade in Mecca, Saudi Arabia's security forces showcased their special forces operating Cobra II 4x4 armored vehicles, developed by the Turkish defense company Otokar.
(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) — Last month, Saudi Arabia showcased its military prowess with a parade in the holy city of Mecca, demonstrating the readiness of its special forces to ensure the security of pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah.
During the event, the Saudi special forces displayed their operation of the Cobra II armored vehicles, developed by the Turkish defense company Otokar.
This oil and gas-rich Arab nation has heightened security measures in Mecca, which annually draws approximately two million people from around the world for the pilgrimage.
Among the security measures implemented by the Saudi authorities are advanced monitoring and surveillance systems, as well as the deployment of security personnel, including women.
Saudi security forces have conducted training to prepare for various security scenarios.
It was reported that Otokar and the Saudi government signed a contract last year for the acquisition of Cobra II 4×4 armored vehicles, with deliveries commencing this year, making Saudi Arabia the latest customer for these tactical vehicles.
The 12-ton Cobra II 4×4 is a tactical vehicle designed and developed by Otokar.
It offers enhanced protection, mobility, and payload capacity.
The vehicle features a monocoque hull structure for ballistic protection and anti-mine capabilities and can carry nine passengers including the driver and commander.
Equipped with an engine that allows speeds up to 110 km/h and a range of 700 km, the Cobra II 4×4 is capable of a variety of military and security operations in both urban and rural areas.
It can also be equipped with various types of weaponry depending on user requirements and operational needs, ranging from border security control, patrols, and domestic security monitoring.
The Cobra II 4×4 can be fitted with weapon systems including a Remote Control Weapon System (RCWS) with a 25mm cannon and grenade launchers, as well as close-range air defense systems.
The vehicle can be configured according to needs, from an anti-aircraft missile launcher platform, anti-tank vehicle, command and control vehicle, ambulance, jammer station, to a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle (MRAP) and more.
