(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) — The intelligence agencies of Malaysia and Turkey collaborated to rescue a Palestinian computer expert known as “Omar. A” (Omar al-Balbaisi) from abduction by individuals associated with the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad while he was in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Turkey’s “Daily Sabah,” Omar. A is a highly recognized Palestinian hacker and has been on Mossad’s most-wanted list.
He is responsible for infiltrating the Iron Dome air defense system of Israel and has been a target of Mossad for a considerable period.
After three years of investigation, Israeli intelligence tracked Omar.A’s involvement in compromising the Iron Dome air defense system in 2015 and 2016, enabling the Al-Qassam Brigades to launch rockets towards Israel, as reported by the Turkish newspaper.
Omar.A, a computer programming graduate from the Islamic University of Gaza, played a crucial role in developing software used by the Ministry of Interior in Gaza to hack mobile phones using the Android operating system.
Due to his expertise in hacking the Iron Dome system, Mossad identified Omar.A as a priority target.
Aware of Mossad’s pursuit, Omar.A relocated to Turkey in 2020, residing in Istanbul.
However, Mossad continued its efforts to capture him, with its operatives posing as high-ranking officials from international companies and human rights organizations offering “job opportunities” to Omar.A.
Their primary goal in offering these “jobs” was to lure Omar.A out of Turkey, abduct him, and take him to Israel.
Mossad agents were determined to capture the Palestinian computer expert and bring him to Israel.
Turkey’s intelligence agency, the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), warned Omar.A about Mossad’s plans to capture him.
In September of the previous year, when Omar.A planned to vacation in Malaysia, the Turkish intelligence agency cautioned him about Mossad’s attempted abduction.
MIT had installed tracking software on Omar.A’s mobile phone.
Despite these precautions, a few days after arriving in Malaysia, Omar.A was kidnapped by individuals working with Mossad and taken to a location outside Kuala Lumpur, where he was tortured and interrogated.
Mossad agents also participated in the interrogation via video calls.
Upon realizing that Omar.A had been kidnapped, the Turkish intelligence agency used the tracking software to locate him. The Turkish intelligence agency informed Malaysia’s intelligence agency and successfully tracked Omar.
A to the location where he was held by the suspects associated with Mossad.
Malaysian police raided the detention location, arresting 11 suspects working for Mossad.
Several days after the incident, the computer expert was sent back to Turkey and placed in a safe house provided by the Turkish intelligence agency.
In October of the previous year, local news reports claimed that on the night of September 28, local suspects had kidnapped a Palestinian programmer and believed to be a crucial asset to the Hamas group.
The vehicle carrying the Palestinian individuals was intercepted by a car with four men, leading to their confinement in a chalet in Hulu Langat.
Over the next 24 hours, both Palestinians were interrogated by Mossad agents to gather information about computer expertise and the locations of Hamas leaders in Malaysia.
On October 14, Malaysia’s national news agency (BERNAMA) reported that 11 individuals, including a woman, were charged in the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur for kidnapping a Palestinian man to obtain information related to the software used for mobile phone hacking. — DSA
