Conflict In Middle East,Ukraine Leaves US Military “Extremely Weak” – Former US General
General Bolduc expressed his alarm at the weakening of the U.S. military under the Biden administration, characterizing it as "extremely weak," overextended, and logistically overwhelmed.
(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) — In the midst of escalating disagreements concerning the substantial transfer of U.S. armament inventory to Ukraine for use against Russia, there arises a concern that America’s defenses may be compromised.
This situation is further exacerbated by the imperative to provide military support to Israel in its conflict against the Hamas armed group.
Joining the chorus of caution is retired U.S. Army Brigadier General Don Bolduc.
As a prominent figure in the U.S. military, General Bolduc served from 1981 to 2017, earning two Purple Hearts, and commanding Africa’s Army Special Operations Command.
Nevertheless, his tenure was not devoid of controversy, particularly in regard to his political statements.
Yet, his insights regarding aid to Ukraine have resonated consistently within the United States, notably among the political right.
General Bolduc expressed his alarm at the weakening of the U.S. military under the Biden administration, characterizing it as “extremely weak,” overextended, and logistically overwhelmed.
He expressed his apprehension that this situation poses “a very serious problem for America and its national security apparatus.”
“I believe it is a clarion call to the American people that during the Biden administration, our military has significantly weakened. We have become overstretched, and from a logistical standpoint, we may struggle to support a multitude of concurrent global operations,” he stated.
The decisions pertaining to continued aid to Ukraine pivot on the rationale that the weaponry required in Eastern Europe differs significantly from what might be needed in a conflict with China in the Pacific.
Nevertheless, the potential outbreak of large-scale warfare in the Middle East, combined with the ongoing threat from well-armed North Korean forces, underscores the demand for assets such as artillery pieces, 155mm munitions, and armored vehicles.
Even in East Asia, contingencies for a conflict with China would necessitate extensive ground operations by the U.S. Military.
The Ukrainian forces’ lack of progress during their protracted summer offensives, resulting in substantial casualties, strengthens the calls for a reevaluation of future aid. American Bradley fighting vehicles have incurred significant losses in combat.
In a late September vote, 93 Republicans supported an amendment to a defense funding bill that prohibited further military assistance to Ukraine.
Furthermore, on September 30th, the Republican-controlled Congress blocked additional aid.
The removal of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a key figure in previous aid packages, has deepened Kyiv’s predicament.
Without the Speaker, the House remains in a deadlock when it comes to passing legislation.
The anticipated discontinuation of Western arms donations and funding could potentially influence the course of the war.
Given the conflict’s crucial significance to Russia, it may be willing to endure long-term sacrifices to sustain its war efforts. — DSA
