(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) – A recent post on the official Facebook page of HRH the Crown Prince of Johor provided a closer look at the Close Quarter Battle (CQB) simulator, which utilizes a real Boeing 747 commercial aircraft.
The CQB simulator, located at Kem Sri Iskandar in Mersing, is part of the Gerup Gerak Khas (GGK) special operations command center.
The post included a brief caption: “Visit and briefing on the upcoming training exercise between Malaysia Special Forces and Johor Military Forces, Elite Forces,” accompanied by several photos of Acting Sultan of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, touring the training facility.
Little is known about the technical aspects of this Boeing 747 CQB simulator.
However, the Malaysian Army “Berita Tentera Darat Malaysia” Facebook account also mentioned the facility in its posting on October 25, in connection with the handover of new assets, including the CQB simulator, to the Chief of Army, Gen. Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, at the 92 Central Vehicle Depot (92 DKP) Garage in Kem Batu Kentonmen.

The Malaysian Army “Berita Tentera Darat Malaysia” post further noted that the Army Chief had received the handover the CQB Simulator.
Although specific technical details remain scarce, it is believed that the simulator was provided by local company Inversys Corporation Sdn Bhd, as indicated in a photo on the social media post.
Beyond the company name, little additional information is available regarding the CQB Simulator, including its manufacturing cost.

Despite this, the presence of the CQB Simulator is highly valuable for GGK, ensuring that elite personnel of the Malaysian Army receive comprehensive, realistic training in hostage rescue operations aboard commercial aircraft.
It is likely that the CQB simulator at Kem Iskandar will also be utilized by other elite units within the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), as well as other specialized security forces such as the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the Royal Malaysian Police, and Johor’s own Johor Military Forces, the Elite Forces as mentioned in HRH Crown Prince of Johor’s Facebook post. — DSA
