(VIDEO) Turkish ADA-Class Corvette, TCG Kinaliada Visits Malaysia
(VIDEO) The ADA-class corvette of the Turkish Navy, TCG Kinaliada (F-514), is currently docked at the Cruise Terminal in Port Klang, Malaysia, as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Japan, as well as to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kuala Lumpur and Ankara.
(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) — The ADA-class corvette of the Turkish Navy, TCG Kinaliada (F-514), is currently docked at the Cruise Terminal in Port Klang, Malaysia, as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Japan.
The presence of the Turkish Navy ship is also part of the commemoration of the 134th anniversary of the frigate Ertugrul’s voyage to Japan.
Malaysia is the sixth destination for the warship TCG Kinaliada, also marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Turkish Ambassador to Malaysia, Emir Salim Yuksel, stated that Malaysia welcomed the visit of the Turkish warship after nine years.
He emphasized that the visit signifies the close relationship between Turkey and Malaysia, as they strive to stand together in all circumstances.
Commander Serkan Dogan was also present.
Before arriving in Malaysia, the ADA-class corvette had stopped at Jeddah, Djibouti, Mogadishu, Male, and Chittagong.
After Malaysia, the Turkish warship will continue its voyage to Jakarta, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Busan, Kushimoto, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Manila, Singapore, Colombo, Mumbai, Muscat, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Karachi, and Aqaba.
In total, the TCG Kinaliada warship will visit 20 countries and 24 ports.
Additionally, the Turkish ambassador to Malaysia mentioned that the visit of the TCG Kinaliada demonstrates the readiness of Turkey and Malaysia to enhance cooperation in various fields, including defense.
He highlighted that the visit aims to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Malaysia and Turkey, which has been elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
The TCG Kinaliada warship is the fourth and final corvette of the ADA-class built by the Istanbul Naval Shipyard as part of the MILGEM corvette program.
It was named after Kinaliada Island, which is part of Prince Islands and closest to Istanbul. Construction of the TCG Kinaliada began on October 8, 2015, was launched on July 3, 2017, and started its maiden voyage on March 25, 2019.
The TCG Kinaliada is a multi-purpose corvette with anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti-surface warfare capabilities.
It is also the first warship equipped with the locally developed anti-ship guided missile, “ATMACA,” developed by ROKETSAN.
The ATMACA missile has a range of 220 km.
With a length of 99.56 meters and a weight of 2,465 tons, the TCG Kinaliada is capable of operating up to 4,000 nautical miles.
According to the statement released, the TCG Kinaliada warship will also conduct exercises with the navies of the countries it visits and various other activities.
Frigate ERTUĞRUL was built in the era of I.Abdülaziz and launched on October 19, 1863.
Following the Japanese Emperor’s nephew visit to İstanbul by a warship in 1887, Frigate ERTUĞRUL, in command of Captain Osman, set to sail on July 14, 1889 to conduct return visit and deliver II.Abdülhamid’s gift to the Japan Emperor.
Frigate ERTUĞRUL reached the port of Yokohama/Japan on July 7, 1890 after executing various port visits.
Frigate ERTUĞRUL departed the port of Yokohama, Japan on September 15, 1890.
While sailing back to homeport, she sank in the vicinity of Kushimoto due to severe storm.
587 sailor passed away in the deep waters of Japan Sea.
69 sailor, who was able to survive, were transported to İstanbul by Japanese military vessels named Hiei and Kongo.
In comemoration of those who perished in the accident, Japan built a monument and constructed a memorial cemetary in 1891. — DSA
