STM Turkey Reaffirms Commitment to Support Malaysia’s Defence Industry Development
In his Facebook post, the Malaysian Defence Minister also mentioned that STM's General Manager was in Malaysia to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defence for the procurement of the three LMS Batch II ships for the RMN.
(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) – Malaysian Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin received a visit from Turkish defence company, Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş. (STM), responsible for constructing three Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) Batch II for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).
The Defence Minister shared the details on his Facebook account today. STM was represented by its General Manager, Özgür Güleryüz.
“In June, I witnessed the Signing Ceremony for the Letter of Acceptance for the purchase of three Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) Batch II by the Malaysian government to STM, one of the companies under the Secretariat of Defence Industries (SSB) and the Turkish government.
“The Royal Malaysian Navy is scheduled to receive these ships in stages, starting in 2027,” Mohamed Khaled stated.
In his Facebook post, the Defence Minister also mentioned that STM’s General Manager was in Malaysia to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defence for the procurement of the three LMS Batch II ships for the RMN.
“Özgür Güleryüz is in Malaysia to sign the contract regarding the purchase of the three LMS Batch II vessels. This opportunity was also used to discuss future collaboration potential with STM.”
“STM has committed to continuing its support for the country’s efforts in developing the local defence industry,” he added.
The RMN’s LMS Batch II ships, currently under construction in Turkey, are designed to perform various missions in maritime environments.
Equipped with advanced sensor and weapon suites, as well as state-of-the-art command and control systems, the three LMS Batch II ships will be capable of executing a wide range of operations at sea.
These ships will be capable of undertaking Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW), Anti-Air Warfare (AAW), Asymmetric Warfare (ASYW), and Electronic Warfare (EW) missions.
The construction and outfitting of the ships will take place in Turkey, with significant involvement from the country’s defence companies.
STM will incorporate Turkish defence products, such as the Combat Management System and 76 mm Gun Fire Control System, supplied by HAVELSAN.
Additionally, the 3D Search Radar, Fire Control Radar, IFF, 30mm Gun, ESM, Chaff Decoy System, and other electronic sensors will be provided by ASELSAN, while the ATMACA anti-ship missile system will be supplied by ROKETSAN.
The RMN’s LMS Batch II ships will also be equipped with close-in air defence systems and torpedoes for anti-submarine warfare.
The LMS Batch II ships for the RMN will be based on the ADA-class corvette design, previously developed by STM for the navies of Turkey, Pakistan, and Ukraine, which has proven its capability and effectiveness in international operations.
Each of the three LMS Batch II ships, to be constructed by STM, will measure 99 meters in length and weigh over 2,500 tonnes.
They will be capable of carrying 111 crew members and cruising at a speed of 14 knots with an operational range of 4,000 nautical miles. — DSA
