(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) — Four Sukhoi Su-35S fighter jets from the Russian Air Force accompanied the official flight of the Ilyushin-96 carrying President Vladimir Putin from Moscow to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Russian Ministry of Defense released a video showcasing the Su-35S fighter jets escorting President Putin’s official aircraft throughout the entire flight.
Despite facing adverse weather conditions during takeoff, the four Su-35S fighter jets successfully navigated through, demonstrating the resilience of these fighter aircraft.
Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary to the President of Russia, mentioned that obtaining special approvals from the countries involved in the flight was necessary for the Su-35S fighter jets to accompany President Putin’s official Ilyushin-96 aircraft.
Peskov expressed the Kremlin’s gratitude to these countries for their cooperation.
Following the visit to the UAE, President Putin’s official aircraft, along with the four accompanying Su-35 fighter jets, will proceed to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, continuing the diplomatic tour before returning to Russia.
The Su-35 fighter jets accompanying President Putin are not ordinary, boasting some of Russia’s most advanced military technologies.
Equipped with high-capacity radar systems, optoelectronic target tracking systems, and electronic countermeasures, the Su-35 demonstrates Russia’s cutting-edge military capabilities.
Peskov emphasized that the action of escorting President Putin’s official aircraft with four Su-35 fighter jets adheres to standard safety protocols for the President’s international visits, ensuring safety and integrity during the flight.
The escorting of President Putin’s official aircraft from Moscow to Abu Dhabi not only showcases Russia’s military capabilities but also signifies the diplomatic relations between Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
In Abu Dhabi, President Putin received an official welcome, including a flyover by UAE Air Force fighter jets, emitting smoke in the colors of the Russian flag.
Quoting Reuters, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan referred to President Putin as a “Dear friend.”
After Abu Dhabi, Putin will visit Saudi Arabia, where he will meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss various issues, including their cooperation within OPEC+ and the conflicts between Hamas and Israel, which have killed over 17,000 Palestinians.
Next Tuesday, President Putin will host a visit from Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in Moscow. — DSA
