Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler announced that Germany has approved the sale of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets to Turkey.
The United States Air Force (USAF) has spent a total of US$64 billion (RM256 billion) to develop its stealthy air-dominance fifth-generation fighter aircraft called the F-22 “Raptor,” which conducted its maiden flight in 1997.
Despite opposition from Germany, Turkey continues its efforts and negotiations to acquire the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets developed by a consortium of four European countries: the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, and Germany.
The Chief Executive Officer of Eurofighter Giancarlo Mezzanatto confirmed that Turkey has shown a keen interest in acquiring Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets, but the effort has been obstructed by Germany.
Turkey is reportedly awaiting a “positive response” from Germany regarding its proposal to purchase 40 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.
Turkey maintain its interest on Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets, even after the United States granted approval for the purchase of 40 F-16 Block 70 fighter jets and 80 modernization kits worth US$23 billion (RM103 billion).
The United Kingdom is set to “lose” 30 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets after the government confirmed it will terminate the services of these fighter aircraft by 2025.
The German government has decided not to obstruct Britain’s efforts to sell more Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, according to German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
