South Korea’s defense authorities have approved a plan to reduce Indonesia’s financial contribution to the KF-21 “Boramae” fighter jet development project to 600 billion won (US$440 million), approximately one-third of the original amount, according to the country’s defense acquisition agency.
South Korean authorities have initiated a joint investigation into a Telegram channel accused of “selling technological documents” related to the KF-21 “Boramae” fighter aircraft and the KUH-1 Surion helicopter.
South Korea will develop three distinct variants of the 4.5-generation KF-21 “Boramae” fighter jet, each tailored for specific missions and operations with the KF-21B variant will be dedicated to Electronic Warfare, the KF-21EX will serve as a Fifth-Generation Fighter, and the KF-21SA is designed for the Export Market.
South Korea is said to be intensifying efforts to attract the attention of two wealthy Gulf Arab countries, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to become partners in the 4.5 generation fighter aircraft development program it is developing, the KF-21 “Boramae.”
Despite facing various challenges and now shrouded with allegations of technology theft by its Indonesian engineers, the 4.5 generation fighter aircraft KF-21 “Boramae” is set to commence mass-production production this year.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is reportedly poised to replace Indonesia as a partner in the development program of the KF-21 “Boramae” fighter aircraft being developed by South Korea and its defense industry.
