(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) – In a tragic incident which shocked Israel, three Israeli hostages who had successfully escaped from Palestinian fighters in the Gaza Strip were shot dead by members of the Israeli military, despite the fact that they were waving a white flag and shouting “Help” in Hebrew.
The Israeli military’s investigative panel, which exposed the incident, stated that the soldiers who fired the shots, resulting in the deaths of the three Israeli hostages, had violated the rules of engagement.
According to the panel’s preliminary findings, the three Israeli hostages were unintentionally shot and killed by Israeli military personnel, even though they were screaming “Help” in Hebrew while waving a white flag towards the soldiers.
“The three Israeli hostages were shot dead accidentally by Israeli military personnel despite their cries for help in the Hebrew language while waving a white flag towards the soldiers,” revealed the Israeli military investigation panel to the local media.
The incident of Israeli military personnel shooting their own citizens has stunned the Israeli population, prompting them to urge the Israeli government, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, to reconsider negotiations with the Palestinian group in order to release their fellow citizens still held in Gaza.
According to the Israeli military investigation panel, the three Israeli hostages were standing near a building with the words “Help” and “SOS” written using spray paint on the external wall of the building.
“Upon seeing the three Israeli hostages, Jewish military personnel immediately opened fire on them, believing that the building had been rigged with explosives.”
“The Israeli military believed that the three hostages and the building were a trap set by Palestinian fighters,” according to the investigation panel.
Two of the Israeli hostages were shot dead instantly by the military, while one of them re-entered the building after suffering severe injuries from the initial gunfire.
“A few minutes later, the third severly injured Israeli hostages came out of the building again and was shot dead immediately by their own military,” said the panel.
The three Israeli hostages who were shot dead by their own military were identified as Yotam Chaim, Samer Talalka, and Alon Shamriz.
They had been captured by Palestinian fighters on October 7 from the Jewish illegal settlements after hundreds of armed Palestinian members breached the border between Gaza and Israel, before being taken and hidden in Gaza.
The Israeli military expressed sympathy for the incident. — DSA
