Russia’s Combination of S-400 “Triumf”,AWACS A-50 leaves Ukraine, West in Tatters

During a recent meeting with members of the Vostok Group of Force, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stated that a total of 24 Ukrainian aircraft, helicopters, and drones were successfully shot down within a five-day period.

(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) — The use of new air warfare tactics by the Russian military, involving the integration of the S-400 “Triumf” air defense system with the A-50 airborne warning and control system (AWACS), has been identified as one of the reasons behind the country’s recent success in shooting down a significant number of Ukrainian military aircraft.

During a recent meeting with members of the Vostok Group of Force, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stated that a total of 24 Ukrainian aircraft, helicopters, and drones were successfully shot down within a five-day period.

International defense analysts attribute Russia’s recent air defense success in Ukraine to the effective coordination between the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) A-50 and the S-400 “Triumf” air defense system.

The S-400 air defense system was deployed against targets at maximum range using information and data transmitted by the A-50 AWACS aircraft, providing the air defense system with the capability to operate at maximum levels of effectiveness.

The Russian government-owned TASS news agency reported that the S-400 air defense system worked in tandem with the A-50 AWACS aircraft in special military operations in Ukraine.

The integration of the S-400 system with the long-range radar-equipped A-50 AWACS aircraft ensured the success of the air defense system in its mission.

Another defense analyst explained that all data and information from the A-50 AWACS aircraft were directly provided to the S-400 air defense system, ensuring that targets, whether aircraft or helicopters, remained unaware that they were being tracked and engaged.

The S-400 air defense system utilizes advanced surveillance and tracking radar that emits powerful frequencies, activating Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) devices on aircraft.

The use of the high-power radar of the S-400 system can expose its position to enemy forces, making it vulnerable to attacks by Ukrainian fighter aircraft.

However, the new air warfare tactics employed by Russia involve remote radar control by the A-50 AWACS aircraft, with all information and data transmitted to the S-400 system.

The S-400 air defense system also employs a “war reserve mode” or “training frequency” for its radar, concealing crucial data that could allow enemies to analyze the radar’s frequency characteristics.

Defense analysts suggest that the S-400 system may use the guided missile 40N6E, capable of targeting at a range of 400 km.

Recent reports indicate that the Russian military’s air defense system successfully shot down seven Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jets within a 24-hour period.

If the statements by the Russian Ministry of Defense are accurate, it poses a significant threat to the Ukrainian military, considering the country’s limited number of fighter aircraft.

The Ministry of Defense did not provide further details on the claims, but defense observers speculate that the MiG-29 aircraft may have fallen victim to the “ambush” tactics of the Russian air defense system. — DSA
