(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) — Two HAWK fighter aircraft belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) have conducted LANDAWAY exercises at Changi Air Base, Singapore, in conjunction with Exercise BERSAMA LIMA 2023.
At the same time, two F-16 aircraft belonging to the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) have carried out LANDAWAY exercises at Kuantan Air Base, according to a post on the MyJointForce Facebook page.
“The cooperation between RMAF and RSAF has seen both forces conducting tactical exercises and enhancing cooperation between the two countries.”
“Operating outside their respective national air bases provides exposure for pilots and support crews to develop skills and enhance their ability to operate aircraft in different locations,” according to the social media statement.
The “LANDAWAY” exercise has also improved tactical operational cooperation and strengthened the professional military relationships between RMAF and RSAF.
Over 2,300 military personnel from the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) member countries, namely Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, are participating in Exercise BERSAMA LIMA 2023 (BL23) from October 2 to October 20.
Exercise BERSAMA LIMA 2023 is conducted as a Field Training Exercise (FTX) in various areas of the waters, land, and airspace of the Malaysian Peninsula and Singapore, including the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Malaysia in the South China Sea.
In line with the defensive nature of the FPDA agreement, Exercise BERSAMA LIMA 2023 is not a threat to neighboring countries but rather a planned exercise that aligns with the professionalism of the armed forces of FPDA member nations.
“This exercise provides an opportunity and space for FPDA member countries to share expertise and insights in addressing any future conflicts.”
Exercise BERSAMA LIMA is held annually on a rotational basis by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
The goal of Exercise BERSAMA LIMA is to train the capabilities of FPDA defense forces in organizing, planning, and executing operations at the Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) level, with a focus on joint tactical integration in a multi-threat environment. — DSA
