As reported recently by a local English-language newspaper, the said island is named Pom Pom Island and is located not far from another more renowned island, Sipadan Island.

The area up for sale on Pom Pom Island encompasses approximately 7.3 acres (around 3 hectares).

According to the newspaper, the land sale on Pom Pom Island was disclosed through the Facebook account of a real estate consultant known as Johnny Wong.

When queried by the newspaper regarding the land sale on the island, Wong stated that, as of now, there is one serious buyer offering to purchase the land at a price lower than the listed one.

Currently, Pom Pom Island has a total of 19 owners who possess various plots of land on the island. However, only one land lot is listed for sale on Facebook.

Situated approximately 30 km north of Semporna in the Celebes Sea, known for its azure blue waters, Pom Pom Island is recognized for its beautiful and well-preserved coral reefs, free from environmental pollution.

For those desiring to own a piece of land on the beautiful Pom Pom Island, it is crucial to note that the area has a “hot” history due to a security incident in 2013.

At that time, Pom Pom Island was rapidly developing with hotels and resorts, attracting tourists with its natural beauty.

However, on November 15, 2013, the island was attacked by the armed group Abu Sayyaf.

 In the incident that occurred at 1 am, a 57-year-old male Taiwanese tourist was found dead with gunshot wounds, while his 58-year-old female companion went missing.

The woman was believed to have been abducted by the armed group that invaded their accommodation on the island and taken to an undisclosed location situated in the southern Philippines.

The Taiwanese woman abducted by the armed group on Pom Pom Island, Semporna, on November 15, was successfully rescued by Philippine authorities about a month later.

 The news of the liberation of the Taiwanese woman was announced by the then Chief of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, through his Twitter account.

Since that incident, security measures around the island and along the east coast of Sabah have been significantly heightened.
