(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) — Iran claims that its engineers have successfully developed technology that enables them to detect the “fingerprint” of enemy electronic equipment, including radar waves used by the United States’ fifth-generation fighter aircraft, the F-35.
This claim was made by the head of Iran Electronics Industries (IEI), Brigadier General Amir Rastegari, who stated that due to arms sanctions against Iran since 1979, the country has developed a high-capacity domestic electronic defense industry.
According to him, this capability includes radar and various guided missile systems, extending to satellites and electronic warfare systems.
He stated to local media, “We have the ‘fingerprint’ of enemy electronic equipment. Just as a fingerprint is unique to each person, it is the same with electromagnetic systems, and we have successfully developed the technology (to detect them) for several years now.”
“For example, when the F-35 fighter aircraft starts operating and monitoring using its radar, its radar will emit different waves than the radar of another F-35 fighter aircraft.”
“Today, we can identify these radar waves, and we can receive and analyze aspects of telecommunications, radio, magnetic signals, and determine which one belongs to which F-35 aircraft,” he said.
According to him, if the same F-35 fighter aircraft operates again, Iran will immediately recognize it.
Iran’s ability to monitor all dimensions of the electromagnetic waves generated by enemy fighter aircraft allows Iran to plan its defense operations as effectively as possible, according to Rastegari.
Last May, the Iranian Ministry of Defense claimed to have successfully hacked two foreign spy aircraft believed to belong to the United States using electronic warfare (EW) systems developed by Iran itself.
He claimed that the incident occurred in the country’s airspace.
“The foreign spy aircraft were flying within the Flight Information Region (FIR) and began emitting waves to collect intelligence information, and we disrupted the activities of the aircraft.”
“The pilot of the spy aircraft thought his aircraft was experiencing problems, so he contacted the base, saying that the aircraft’s systems had issues, and he would return to the base.”
“We have a recording of that conversation,” said the Iranian Ministry of Defense.
He also revealed that the country now has the capability to “jam” the radar and communication systems of enemy aircraft with radio waves to disrupt their operations.
They have successfully tested this capability against existing “enemies” in real-world situations.
Iran’s military technology, including radar and guided missile systems, has advanced to the point where it enabled the country to shoot down a US Global Hawk drone after it violated Iranian airspace in the Strait of Hormuz in 2019, according to Brigadier General Rastegari.
He described the current era as the “sixth-generation” era of hybrid warfare and networks, smart bombs, unmanned systems, and artificial intelligence.
“To stay ahead of the enemy, Iran’s radar and electronic warfare systems must be able to see the enemy before the enemy sees Iran,” he said.
He stated that Iran has been waging electronic warfare against its enemies, continuously testing the level of the country’s air defense systems. — DSA
