EMOC by EM&E Group, A Mortar Carrier Designed To Maximize Survivability In Indirect Fire Operations
EM&E Group’s EMOC mortar carrier places survivability at the centre of its design, addressing a critical requirement for forces conducting battlefield indirect fire operations.
(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) — In today’s land operations, the effectiveness of a mortar system is no longer measured solely by its range or firepower.
The ability to minimize time in position, maintain accuracy in degraded navigation environments, and operate from highly mobile platforms has become an operational requirement for armed forces.
With this objective in mind, EM&E Group has developed the 120mm and 81mm EMOC, a mortar carrier that combines a lightweight architecture with navigation and fire control technologies designed to meet the challenges of modern combat.
Survivability begins before the first shot
The operational concept of the EMOC revolves around minimizing platform exposure. In an environment where counter-battery fire and weapon-locating systems can react within seconds, time in position is a critical factor.

The 120mm system can automatically deploy and stow in less than 20 seconds, and fire three rounds in under a minute from the moment it arrives at the firing position.
For its part, the 81mm variant takes less than 15 seconds to automatically deploy and stow, firing three rounds in under 45 seconds.
This rapid sequence enables shoot-and-scoot maneuvers, allowing the platform to displace immediately after completing the fire mission.
Furthermore, EMOC incorporates emergency manual modes for both aiming and stowing, ensuring that operations can continue even if an unforeseen event occurs.
In-tube integrated inertial navigation for improved accuracy
One of the key features that sets the EMOC apart is the location of its Inertial Navigation System (INS). Instead of installing it on the vehicle, EM&E Group integrates it directly into the mortar tube.
This configuration allows the ballistic solution to be calculated from the exact point of the projectile’s launch, reducing deviations caused by vehicle movement, terrain irregularities, or structural variations of the platform.
The architecture also maintains firing capability when GNSS/GPS signals are jammed, degraded, or unavailable, preserving accuracy without relying on external navigation systems.
Integration into light platforms without compromising mobility
The EMOC has been designed to provide 81 mm and 120 mm mortar capabilities without compromising the mobility of light tactical vehicles.
Its design avoids transmitting firing energy to the chassis, reducing structural loads on the platform and facilitating integration across various vehicles without complex modifications.
This approach maintains the vehicle’s mobility performance while incorporating a heavy indirect fire capability.
The systems are also compatible with both 81 mm and 120 mm smoothbore and rifled mortars, offering flexibility for different mission profiles and enabling both calibers to operate at their maximum rate of fire.

A technological ecosystem developed by EM&E Group
Beyond the platform, the EMOC is part of a proprietary technological development strategy.
EM&E Group designs and integrates in-house the mechanics, electronics, software, control systems, and automation that make up the system.
This development capability facilitates customizing the mortar carrier to meet each customer’s operational requirements and accelerates the integration of new features without relying on external suppliers for critical components.
The EMOC’s open architecture allows its integration with different fire control systems and with the EGM 120 smart ammunition, developed by EM&E Group.
This straightforward solution stands out for its rapid preparation speed and its high course-correction capability by combining GNSS navigation and inertial sensors.
Furthermore, the system achieves an accuracy with a CEP (Circular Error Probable) of less than 10 meters.
A response to the requirements of contemporary combat
The combination of ultra-fast deployment, accuracy in degraded navigation environments, and compatibility with light tactical vehicles positions the EMOC as a solution tailored to today’s indirect fire needs.
With a design centered on platform survivability, technological autonomy, and integration flexibility, EM&E Group delivers a system prepared to operate in scenarios where rapid response and the capability to maintain fire under complex conditions are becoming increasingly decisive.
