Malaysian, Pakistani Armies Conduct Joint Military Exercise “Harimau Markor” in Pakistan

(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) – Malaysian and Pakistani army personnel recently participated in a joint military exercise named Exercise Harimau Markor Series 2/2024 held in Pakistan.
Held from November 4 to 15 at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Pakistan, the exercise focused on counter-terrorism operations in a jungle environment.
It also emphasized sharing tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP), as well as adapting to the unique terrain of Pakistan.
“Exercise Harimau Markor Series 2/2024 focused on counter-terrorism operations in a jungle environment while fostering exchanges in tactics, techniques, procedures, and adapting to the terrain of Pakistan,” according to a recent social media post by the Malaysian Army.
The joint exercise was described as a positive step in strengthening bilateral ties, enabling both nations to exchange ideas, knowledge, and expertise.

BRIEF:

From November 4 to 15, Malaysian and Pakistani army personnel participated in Exercise Harimau Markor Series 2/2024 at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Pakistan. Focused on counter-terrorism operations in jungle environments, the exercise emphasized sharing tactics, techniques, procedures (TTP), and adapting to Pakistan’s terrain.

The exercise, involving 5 RRD of Malaysia and 4 LCB of Pakistan, was hailed as a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations through the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and expertise.

The closing ceremony, officiated by senior military leaders from both nations, also featured a Clearance of Stronghold demonstration, underscoring the operational capabilities honed during the exercise.

Participants included five officers and 13 personnel from the 5th Battalion, Royal Ranger Regiment (5 RRD) of Malaysia, along with a Doctrine Evaluation Officer.
The Pakistan Army was represented by five officers and 28 personnel from the 4th Light Commando Battalion (LCB).
The closing ceremony on November 15 at the NCTC was officiated by Major General Datuk Fazal Hj Abdul Rahman, Chief of the Malaysian Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, and Major General Muhammad Intikhab Alam, Commander of Pakistan’s 23rd Division.

The Malaysian delegation, led by the 2nd Infantry Division Chief, also witnessed a Clearance of Stronghold demonstration.
Other dignitaries present included Malaysian High Commissioner to Pakistan Datuk Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, Defence Adviser to Islamabad Colonel Noraripin Othman, and Lieutenant Colonel Chai Kean Seng, Commanding Officer of 5 RRD. – DSA
