(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) – Lebanon’s Hezbollah fighters have unveiled the “Qader-1” Short Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM) which was launched for the first time in the ongoing conflict with Israel yesterday.
In a video released by the group, the ballistic missile is shown on its launcher, believed to be located in an underground complex.
According to the Lebanese militant group, the short-range ballistic missile has a diameter of 620mm, a length of over 7.6 meters, weighs 2,800 kg, and is equipped with more than 500 kg of explosives.
The Qader-1 missile, operated by Hezbollah, has a range of 190 km.
It is also reported to be capable of maneuvering during flight and was developed with a high degree of accuracy to strike its intended targets.
Analysts who examined the design of Hezbollah’s Qader-1 ballistic missile suggest that it may originally have been an Iranian-made missile that was later upgraded and modified for Hezbollah’s use.
“It is likely that the missile was originally Iran’s Fateh-110 before being modified by Hezbollah,” one analyst stated.
Hezbollah maintains close ties with the Iranian government.
Yesterday, Hezbollah launched a Qader-1 ballistic missile towards Israel, targeting the headquarters of the country’s intelligence agency, MOSSAD, in Tel Aviv.
The missile strike, which occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. (local time), was successfully intercepted by Israel’s David’s Sling air defense system.
Military analysts believe the Qader-1 missile strike was more of a warning to Israel about Hezbollah’s actual capabilities.

“If Hezbollah were to truly strike Israel with missiles, it would launch hundreds of rockets to overwhelm Israel’s air defense systems before launching several ballistic missiles at the Jewish state.”
“Yesterday’s missile strike was more of a warning to Israel,” the analysts added.
Israel’s airspace is protected by a multi-layered air defense system, consisting of the Iron Dome (short-range), David’s Sling (medium-range), and Arrow (high-altitude).
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack on the MOSSAD headquarters, stating that it was in retaliation for the agency’s involvement in the assassination of its leaders and the recent explosions of pagers and radios used by its members last week.
More than 40 people were killed and 2,000 injured in the explosion incidents across Lebanon and Syria last week, which were allegedly orchestrated by the Israeli intelligence agency.
Several countries around the world have condemned these actions, labeling them as acts of terrorism by Israel. – DSA
