Russia’s Plan to Weaponize ‘Soyuz’ Space Rocket and Target Ukraine
The "Bild" newspaper stated that the plan between the two high-ranking officials of the Russian space agency involves an effort to equip the "Soyuz" space rocket with explosives ranging from 6.5 to 7.5 tons, depending on the location from which it is launched.
(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) — An article from the German newspaper “Bild” alleges that Russia is planning to use a space rocket equipped with explosives to attack the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, or any major city in the country.
However, it should be noted that, as of now, what the newspaper claims is merely an allegation and has not been substantiated.
According to the newspaper, the plan to use a space rocket has been discussed between the head of the Russian space agency, Dmitry Rogozin, and Dmitry Baranov, who is the head of its subsidiary, Progress Space Rocket Center.
Progress Space Rocket Center is responsible for developing space launch vehicles that transport crews and payloads from other countries to the International Space Station (ISS).
Based on conversations among senior officials of the Russian space agency, as obtained by “Bild,” they intend to turn the “Soyuz” space rocket into a massive weapon to target Ukraine.
The newspaper suggests that this plan is part of a terrorist attack on Ukraine by Russian space agency officials aimed at drawing the attention of President Vladimir Putin.
“Bild” also claims that this plan has been presented to Putin.
It involves launching the “Soyuz” space rocket, which has historically been used for civilian missions, and preventing it from reaching orbit.
Instead, it would crash into Ukrainian cities along with the explosive payload it carries.
The resulting explosion from a “Soyuz” space rocket crashing in Ukraine would be extremely catastrophic.
The German newspaper states that they were able to obtain these phone conversations through hacking and that the alleged phone conversations took place in January of this year.
“Bild” reports that the plan between the two high-ranking Russian space agency officials involves equipping the “Soyuz” space rocket with explosives ranging from 6.5 to 7.5 tons, depending on where it is launched.
Both of them expect that the preparations for outfitting the “Soyuz” with explosives would take up to six months, but it would still face significant technical challenges that could thwart the plan.
They intend to seek advice from guided missile manufacturing expert Yuri Solomonov.
With a height of 50 meters and a weight of 313 tons, the “Soyuz” space rocket has the capacity to carry payloads weighing up to 7.1 tons, which is sufficient to carry various types of dangerous weapons and guided missiles as part of its explosive payload.
However, Russian scientists would need to ensure that the “Soyuz” space rocket crashes accurately in Ukrainian cities. — DSA
