(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) – The Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) Batch II Littoral Mission Ships (LMSBII), currently under construction in Türkiye, are designed to perform a wide range of maritime tasks.
Equipped with advanced sensor suites, weaponry, and command-and-control systems, the three LMS Batch II ships will be capable of executing various missions.
These include Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW), Anti-Air Warfare (AAW), Asymmetric Warfare (ASYW), and Electronic Warfare (EW).
The construction and outfitting of these ships will take place in Türkiye, with significant involvement from the country’s defense companies.
As the main contractor, Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik (STM) will incorporate products from Türkiye’s defense industry, including the Combat Management System and 76mm Gun Fire Control System supplied by HAVELSAN.
Additionally, ASELSAN will provide key systems such as the 3D Search Radar, Fire Control Radar, Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), 30mm gun, Electronic Support Measures (ESM), Chaff Decoy System, and other electronic sensors. The ATMACA anti-ship missile system will be supplied by ROKETSAN.
In early June, Malaysia’s Ministry of Defence signed a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) with Türkiye’s Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) for the acquisition of the Batch II Littoral Mission Ships for the RMN.
The LOA was signed by Malaysia’s Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Khaled Nordin, during his five-day working visit to Türkiye, along with SSB President, Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün.
All three LMS Batch II ships are expected to be completed within a stipulated timeframe of three years and six months.
