RMAF MiG-29 Fighter Jet to be Displayed as Monument at Dataran Pahlawan, Putrajaya
According to an statement released on RMAF’s social media, this will be the second MiG-29 fighter to be preserved as a monument, following the MiG-29 (M43-06) displayed at Al-Sultan Abdullah Camp, Joint Force Headquarters, in Kuantan.
(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) – A decommissioned MiG-29 fighter jet from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will be repurposed as a monument at the Dataran Pahlawan Complex in Putrajaya.
According to an statement released on RMAF’s social media, this will be the second MiG-29 fighter to be preserved as a monument, following the MiG-29 (M43-06) displayed at Al-Sultan Abdullah Camp, Joint Force Headquarters, in Kuantan.
“Commander of Kuantan Air Base, Brigadier General Ahmad Edros bin Ahmad Osman of the RMAF, witnessed the handover of documents for a MiG-29N (M43-14) aircraft, which has been approved for decommissioning and will be permanently exhibited at the Dataran Pahlawan Complex, Putrajaya,” the statement read.
“This marks the second MiG-29N to be transformed into a monument, with the first being the MiG-29N (M43-06), currently displayed at Al-Sultan Abdullah Camp, Joint Force Headquarters in Kuantan.”
The ceremony, held at Shelter No. 17 Squadron, Kuantan Air Base, featured a formal document handover between Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Syahrul bin Eshahan, Head of the Materials Branch, and Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Zuraiman bin Abdul Ghani, Head of the Nucleus Team.
According to the RMAF, Malaysia received the MiG-29UB Fulcrum and MiG-29N Fulcrum jets in 1995.
These aircraft were specifically tailored for Malaysia under the designation “MiG-29N.”
“The MiG-29N was part of RMAF’s efforts to enhance the nation’s air defense capabilities at that time,” the statement added.
“Throughout its service, the MiG-29N successfully fulfilled its role as a versatile fighter jet capable of executing a variety of missions.” – DSA
