(VIDEO) Analysts believe the missile launched by Iran yesterday is likely a "super heavy" type, carrying a substantial warhead similar to the "Khorramshahr-4," Iran’s most modern and advanced ballistic missile developed to date.
(DEFENCE SECURITY ASIA) – Iran has reportedly conducted a test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) at its missile testing and space center in Shahroud, northern Iran.
Viral videos on social media show a single missile launched at night from Shahroud, a location that had recently been targeted in an airstrike by Israel just weeks ago.
It appears that the Israeli airstrike on the Shahroud testing and space center had little impact, as Iran has since responded by launching this ICBM test.
Analysts suggest this ICBM test serves as a warning to both Israel and the United States, signaling Tehran’s readiness to respond under its “True Promise-3” operation.
If Iran has indeed launched an ICBM, this marks a new milestone in its missile development.
Compared to its existing ballistic missile arsenal, the ICBM provides Iran with significantly extended strike range.
Meanwhile, locals near Shahroud reported seeing a large missile, with the light from its rocket booster visible from several kilometers away.
Analysts believe the missile is a “super heavy” type, likely carrying a substantial payload, similar to the advanced “Khorramshahr-4” ballistic missile, the most modern and sophisticated weapon in Iran’s arsenal.
Unveiled last year, the “Khorramshahr-4” reportedly has an effective range of 2,000 km and carries a 1.5-ton warhead.
However, Iranian officials have hinted that the actual range may be between 4,000 km and 5,000 km, despite public claims of a 2,000 km limit.
A senior official from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) previously stated that each “Khorramshahr-4” missile is equipped with cluster munitions, enabling simultaneous targeting of multiple locations.
Each missile can carry up to 80 submunitions with Exo-Atmospheric Maneuvering Re-Entry Vehicle (Exo-MaRV) technology.
The “Khorramshahr-4” is also noted for its accuracy, with a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of 10 to 30 meters, and uses hypergolic propellant.
Capable of reaching speeds of Mach 16 outside the atmosphere and Mach 8 within, this ballistic missile accelerates to its final phase before striking its target.
Each “Khorramshahr-4” missile stands 13 meters tall, weighs 30 tons, and features low radar visibility to evade detection by enemy radar and defense systems. — DSA
